Travelling To Verbier

What should you consider when travelling to Verbier? Should you fly, train or drive? What about bringing ski equipment with you, which way would be easiest when doing so? What’s the quickest way to get here? Or the cheapest? All very important questions… well we are here to help and provide you with everything you need to know about travelling to your favourite resort!!

Flying

Travelling to Verbier by plane is the quickest and most convenient way to get there. With a good choice of airports. Once arrived in your chosen airport Verbier is then a transfer by taxi or minibus away, or you could even hire a car and drive yourself. 

Geneva Airport is the nearest choice, taking around 1hr 48mins to get to Verbier. With great flight choices and fantastic prices.

Bern Airport across the border in Italy is another option at around 2hr 07 mins away. 

Or an alternative airport option is Turin Airport across the border in Italy which has plenty of flight options, it is 2hr 33mins away so a slightly bigger transfer time but definitely a good back up choice.

If you are thinking of having ski carriage then do not forget to check how much extra the airline might charge you and allow yourself extra time to get all your equipment checked in.

Travelling to Verbier in the comfort of your own car is a great idea if you need or want more flexibility getting around Resort and arriving in your own time at your own pace. 

Being able to drive yourself where you want to around the resort, or even outside of your resort is much more convenient and comfortable. Also avoid those pesky baggage weight limits and shelling out for your ski/snowboard carriage.

 

When travelling to Verbier from the UK by car there are two different options to consider on how to cross the channel, you can either hop on a Ferry from Dover for a more relaxed approach and a chance to stretch your legs, or use the Eurotunnel for convenience (and avoid that horrible sea sickness for those sufferers out there). 

Dover to Calais by Ferry is 1hr 30 mins and the Eurotunnel leaving from Folkestone to Calais is 35 minutes.

Once across the channel it then takes around 8hrs 47mins to drive to Verbier by shortest route VIA the A26, this route has tolls, €57.30, so please bare that in mind when working out the budgets for you trip. 

Driving across also gives you the option of stopping overnight on the way and travelling at your own pace, especially when travelling with young children who can get bored and tiresome. There are many service stations and picnic stops along the way too which is great for a little break and unwind on your journey.

Train

Travelling to Verbier by train can sound like a daunting task, but here we have compiled a guide on what you need to know in order to have as stress free a journey as possible.

The nearest train station for Verbier is at the base of the valley, Le Chable.

If you’re travelling to Verbier from the UK by train then the best option is to get the Eurostar.

Eurostar leaves from either London St Pancras or Ashford, Kent. The Eurostar takes around 2hrs 16mins to get to Paris Nord from London St Pancras.

Once in Paris Nord you then get a transfer across to Paris Lyon, here you will catch a TGV service to Lausanne this takes around 3hr 30mins.

Once in Lausanne its a Local train service to Martigny taking you less than an hour.

Then the local train from Martigny to Le Chable taking just over 20 minutes.

Le Chable is then a short transfer up to the Village of Verbier, you can either go by gondola which takes 9 minutes, Taxi which is around 20 minutes or bus which is around 25 minutes.

Faster than a ferry, crossing between Dover & Calais take only 35min cutting around an hour of journey time when driving to the slopes.
