Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews leapt to victory in Sunday’s final of the Jump, defeating big favourite Louis Smith.
In what was expected to be a close fought battle, Spencer edged ahead of series favourite, & multiple Olympic medallist Louis Smith. It took a mammoth effort from Matthews jumping a whopping 18.98 metres to win the show, in the process breaking Sid Owen’s Jump record of 18.85 metres from last years’ show.
With a jump of 18.05 metres Smith wasn’t far behind after being the dominate force through most of this series. When told of his victory by the Jumps presenter Davina McCall, an elated Matthews exhalted “Yes, I’m So Happy”.
Matthews was quick to hit Twitter to share his victory writing: “To all those who supported me in #TheJump thank you from the bottom of my heart.. Love to all my fellow competitors too!!”
He gave particular praise to Smith, and the drive that the Olympic gymnast instilled in him.
“What an amazing experience.. Thanks @Channel4 for selecting me and @louissmith1989 for pushing me as far as I can go. HE is a REAL athlete.”
“Would never have jumped as far if it wasn’t for my fellow competitor’s class and skill, @louissmith1989 thanks for pushing me brother. x
Fans of the show will be pleased to hear The Jump will be returning to Channel 4 in 2018.
