The Lech piste map is pretty huge and has lots to offer for skiers of all standards; benefiting from over 200km of pistes, plus you’ve also got the Ski Arlberg area which is renowned for being a great place to visit, especially after fresh snow.  Advanced skiers – make sure you head for Stuben and try the long shady reds.

And expert skiers won’t be disappointed here either.  You’ve got some superb off-piste to use your Lech lift pass, particularly on powder days.  It’s definitely worth visiting the Saloberkopt which you’ll find above Warth where you’ll really enjoy the thrill of the steep pistes.

The Resort of Lech

Lech is a popular resort for the rich and famous – and it’s not surprising why either.  Accommodation is all of a good quality, and there is a lot of entertainment for you to enjoy once you’ve finished on the slopes.  They’ve certainly put a lot of thought behind delivering all the comforts that you would want in a higher standard ski resort with lots to enjoy both on and off the slopes.  Oberlech’s car-free centre is also good for families.

If you’re looking at Lech ski accommodation, you’ve got quite a variety to choose from and regardless of type, you’ll find that they’re of a higher standard.  Self-catering chalets tend to be at the higher end of the resort and consequently come with a higher price, however you also have a few guesthouses here.  You’ve got a choice of Lech hotels which range from 2 to 4 stars, with most of them being a chalet-style building.

Lech Snow Conditions

When it comes to altitude, Lech reaches up to 2811m and is well-known for being one of the snowiest resorts and consequently favourite winter hideaways throughout the Alps.  It certainly has an excellent snow record, however the treeless slopes can be affected in poor weather.

Traditionally, Lech gets between an average of 36cm at the top in November, rising to 252cm per month at its highest in March.

Lech Resort Life

Lech has so much going for it, both on and off the slopes.  Although it does have an upmarket image, it still provides a welcoming location for families, with a good selection of ski schools and children’s clubs in Lech, Oberlech and Zürs.  For non-skiers in Lech there is quite a list of activities to try including curling,

Europe’s only ice skating rink with air con, indoor golf, sleigh riding, tobogganing, winter feeding of the high-alpine game and winter walks.  And if it’s shopping that you enjoy, there are some superb shops to visit.  You’ve also got a fully-equipped sports centre.  Spa lovers have an excellent variety of wellness centres here.

Lech’s restaurants and bars don’t disappoint either.  There are some excellent examples of Austrian cuisine including Gasthof Post and Hagen’s Dorfmetzgerei und Imbiss.  While the après-ski doesn’t have quite the same buzz as that of St Anton, it still retains its reputation for being a high-end resort.  Entertainment-wise, you’ll find quite a variety too – so if it’s a tea dance, or drinking in one of Lech’s classy bars, or some late-night partying at the various nightclubs – especially the K Club, there’ll be something for you.

What’s Good About Lech?

We like Lech as it really is a first-class ski resort.  From its beautiful riverside setting with its traditional chocolate-box images to its excellent snow record, there’s no missing why it’s such a popular destination.  Ski-wise, you’ve got a vast area of slopes that are shared between Lech and Zürs, and if you head for the gondola links to Warth, or even further onto St Anton, you’ll certainly be able to get some real distance under your belt.

Packed with loads to do both on and off the slopes thanks its the lively après-ski, and not forgetting a fabulous choice of hotels, Lech won’t leave you disappointed.

The SnowResort Verdict

Lech is up there in the favourites for wealthier ski visitors which does mean that it can be pretty expensive, particularly by Austrian standards.  However, there’s no getting away from the fact that you can expect one of the largest ski areas of Austria when you come to Lech, and with excellent snowfall to match.  Combined with some high-quality accommodation; you’ve got a great all-round ski resort.
