In July, Courchevel and Méribel will open a new pass exclusively dedicated to bikers, the 2304 m high Loze pass, the first French pass over 2000 m to be cleared of snowand first step towards the forthcoming VIA 3 Vallées. This 4 or 5 m wide path will enable bike lovers to cross the 3 Valleys in a natural setting and enjoy breath-taking landscapes on top of the Alpes’ highest summits. This itinerary will later on become the world reference for cycling in a mountain resort.

While waiting for the connection to Méribel, Courchevel invites challengers at heart to climb the Loze pass on Sunday, the 12thof May, during the Eiffage time trial race. Amateurs are also obviously invited to join.

The last 5.8 kilometres of this ascent will enable cyclists to admire the Vanoise glaciers, the Grande Casse and mont Blanc summit safely.
Nice atmosphere and friendliness will be the keywords of ascent, with a generous local food supplying offered to competitors on arrival.

Two distances are available:

Eiffage Trophy: 22.6 km, 1510 m of positive altitude change. Departure from le Carrey (Alt. 845 m) from 10AM
Felt Trophy: 8.6 km, 580 m of positive altitude change. Departure from Courchevel (Alt. 1760 m) from 11AM

Summer biking agenda :

  • Loze pass ascent, on Sundays: the 12thof May, the 30thof June, and the 28thof July during the Eiffage Loze pass time trial.
  • 3 Valleys Addict Tour, on the 13thand 14thof July: do loops with mountain bikes and regular bikes in Courchevel and Méribel valleys. This summer, the Loze pass ascent will also be possible.
  • The Haute Route, on the 26thof August. Come and cheer up the most important amateur cycling stage race in France: 600 competitors from all around the world, with an arrival at Loze pass.

Train Travel to the alps vs Plane Travel

Short haul flying is rarely a joyous experience and, like many people, I’m increasingly conscious of my carbon footprint. For my January and February trips to the mountains I decided to mix things up a little to compare plane travel with the train.
