A superb location up in the Rockies, the Fernie piste map has something for every level of skier. Beginners have an excellent dedicated zone in the lower mountain.

You’ve got two different options at the Fernie resort. If you’re looking to be on the pistes quicker, you’ll want to base yourself around the Mountain Resort, but if you’re looking for more of a party atmosphere, you’ll want to be in Fernie. There are only five miles between the town and the ski resort, which you can easily access via the bus service, or you can hire a car which is definitely recommended.

If you’re thinking about Fernie ski accommodation, most of it is made up of self-catering options, with hundreds of apartments, houses and lodges on offer. Alternatively, you can choose from a few Fernie hotels that are available.

Without a doubt, the Fernie ski resort has the most snow in Canada. With up to 37 feet of snow to be found in winter, the best time to visit traditionally is March, when you’ll see an average of 267cm snow depth at the top of the mountain. At the other end of the scale, November is the lowest, with an average of 16cm at the top

The resort was named after William Fernie, who was a pioneering prospector; discovering coal back in 1897 which started a mining boom here.

If you’re looking for a wonderfully quiet resort with lots of snow, you’ve come to the right place at Fernie. It has a great record for its snowfall, and you have less chance of seeing rain than if you were staying at Whistler.

It can get pretty busy at weekends at Fernie, when the locals arrive from Calgary, so it’s well worth planning your visit’s timing. A great benefit of this resort is that you can choose to either stay in the town for more of a lively buzz, or closer to the ski action on the mountain
