A fabulous award for the resort as it celebrates its 80th birthday!
Alpe d’Huez blows out its 80 candles this winter and can really celebrate as it has just won the very coveted title of Best Ski Resort in Europe 2017 at the ‘European Best Destinations’ ceremony which was held in Brussels on the 17th December.
“Tourism is similar to team sports, winning comes only with a joint effort! Winning this title right at the start of the winter season encourages us to persevere by continually improving our offer”, this quote by Francois Badjily, manager of the Alpe d’Huez tourist office sums up the mindset that the resort has strived towards over the last few years. Everyone in the resort has gone all out in the pursuit of excellence to offer the very best of experiences for skiers and non-ski activities.
Winning this title of ‘Best Ski Resort in Europe’ goes hand in hand with the dynamic drive to enhance and upgrade the resort to its current success.
It is motivating for the whole resort and a real reward for everything accomplished up to now. Over 58000 people representing 92 countries voted between the 5th and the 15th December 2016 to elect the best resort in Europe. It is the ‘Island in the Sun’ that came away with 9550 votes, followed by La Plagne, Courchevel, Kitzbuhel (Austria) and Gstaad (Switzerland).
Alpe d’Huez aims to be THE ski resort of tomorrow! The resort in the Isère is investing 350m € in new infrastructure to further improve its range and offer over the next 5 years. It’s an ambitious challenge which is today, one of the most important development projects in Europe.
On the schedule: increase accommodation capacity, pedestrianize areas, add trees and develop an expand the ski area with a completely new layout.
