Travelling To Alpbach

Travelling To Alpbach

What should you consider when travelling to Alpbach? Should you fly, train or drive? What about bringing ski equipment with you, which way would be easiest when doing so? What’s the quickest way to get here? Or the cheapest? All very important questions… well we are here to help and provide you with everything you need to know about travelling to your favourite resort!!

Flying

Flying is the fastest way to travel to any ski resort, and there are many airport choices for travelling to Alpbach, the resort is then a transfer or a bus ride away from the airport, or hiring a car is nice and easy if you would like that option too

Innsbruck is the nearest airport, 51 mins away and has a good choice of airlines operating throughout the winter season.

Salzburg Airport is around 1hr 30 mins away, in good traffic, and is also only used in winter.

Or another great airport option is Munich Airport just across the border in Germany which has great flight options and fantastic prices, it is 1hr 40 mins away so a slightly bigger transfer time in comparison to the nearest airport, Innsbruck, but the flight options and prices certainly make up for this and are definitely worth considering.

If you are thinking of having ski carriage then do not forget to check how much extra the airline might charge you and allow yourself extra time to get all your equipment checked in.

driving

Travelling to Alpbach in the comfort of your own car is a great idea if you need or want more flexibility getting around Alpbach and arriving in your own time at your own pace.

Being able to drive yourself where you want to around the resort, or even outside of your resort is much more convenient and comfortable. Also avoid those pesky baggage weight limits and shelling out for your ski/snowboard carriage.

When travelling to Alpbach from the UK by car there are two different options to consider on how to cross the channel, you can either hop on a Ferry from Dover for a more relaxed approach and a chance to stretch your legs, or use the Eurotunnel for convenience (and avoid that horrible sea sickness for those sufferers out there).

Dover to Calais by Ferry is 1hr 30 mins and the Eurotunnel leaving from Folkestone to Calais is 35 minutes.

Once across the channel it then takes around 10hrs 30min to drive to Alpbach by shortest route VIA the A4 &A5, this route has tolls, €63, and travels though Germany so please bare that in mind when working out the budgets for self drive.

Driving across also gives you the option of stopping overnight on the way and travelling at your own pace, especially when travelling with young children who can get bored and tiresome. France has many service stations and picnic stops along the way too which is great for a little break and unwind on your journey.

Train

Travelling to Alpbach by train can sound like a daunting task, but here we have compiled a guide on what you need to know in order to have as stress free a journey as possible.

Brixlegg Train Station

The nearest train station for Alpbach is at Brixlegg and it takes around 20 minutes by bus, car or transfer to then get to Alpbach.

If you’re travelling to Alpbach from the UK, during winter season, December – April Eurostar run a direct train from London St Pancras or Ashford, Kent to Brussels. Unfortunately there is not a direct Eurostar to Austria at this point but with a few changes and a little under 16 hours you can reach Alpbach.

Eurostar’s direct daytime leaves London/Ashford on once daily and arrives in Brussels 2 hours later. You  change here for Koeln Hbf, a 1hr 50min journey, before the longest stretch travelling Koln – Jenbach for 8 hours.

From Jenbach it is only a 6min train to Brixlegg station.

The final stretch of your trip is short 20 min transfer by car/bus/transfer.
